For the Young: On the Baseline Heretical, Modern Idea of “Soul Mates”

So today, I found out that one of my three internet fans put up one of my rare public posts to my Facebook timeline from last week. In it, I pointed out that soul mates,  the current idea in the world being that there are mysterious perfect couplings just waiting for people, is a load of hot garbage. That marriage is work, and you have to go through a lot together, but in the end, you will become very much perfect partners for one another through hard work, patience and long-suffering.

Apparently these geniuses then thought I was a heretic for it. Apparently they believe soul mates are real and just floating around waiting for them. This must be why two of them are alone in their old age and the other one, married with kids, said nothing about it.

Soul mates are not real. Marriage is real, and the work and difficulty required is real. Grace and the Power of God keep people from giving up on each other so long as they choose not to give up on each other. That is how marriage works.

But the modern world keeps looking for false “soul mates”. There is no need. Find a person who shares your beliefs, is good enough for your standards, and most importantly is willing to put up with all your nonsense, kids. That’s how this works. Oh, and ignore old people giving loads of marriage advice if they’re divorced or still single and not monastics. Those folks are called busybodies.
